Barrow Amateur Swimming Club recently competed in the 2006 county age groups and came away with a sackful of personal best times.

Session 1 staged at Kendal on the saturday saw barrow swimmers achieve 31 pb,s from 42 swims, with 14 girls getting best times in the 100 ind medley and 16 boys in the 50 free.

The afternoon session saw another 19 pb,s in 32 swims with 7 in the girls 200m free and 7 boys in the 200 ind med.

Due to poor weather conditions on the sunday also at Kendal  over half the Barrow swimmers  failed to reach the leisure centre , but those that did still managed 9 pb,s out of 18 swims in the morning  with Alex Minnican finishing 1st in his age group for boys  in the 200m fly and 13 pb,s out of  19 swims in the afternoon one of which resulted  in David Thompson achieving 28.42 (a county record )  for boys 50m free whilst swimming the 100m free .

The following weekend  the swimmers travelled  to Copeland  for sessions 5 to 8 and again didn,t  disappoint.

Session 5 saw 19 pb,s  from 38 swims , 8 coming in the  boys 400 free , with Fraser Minnican 1st in his age group.

Session 6  resulted in a fantastic 22 pb,s from 30 swims , 9 coming in the boys 50m back.

there was 1 in the 50m fly for girls which resulted in the girls vice capt Claire Hockaday winning her age group.

The sunday sessions again proved to be fruitful  with 23 pb,s from 30 swims in the morning , 12  in the boys 200 free , with 1st places in their ages for the Minnican cousins Fraser and Alex.

Sunday afternoon saw 26 pb,s  from 36 swims with  young Wallis Mcdowell claiming 1st place in the girls 200m back.

Over the 2 weekends Barrow swimmers achieved a remarkable  162 personal best times out of  235 swims and had the weather been a bit kinder  many more would of been achieved.

Barrow Asc would like to congratulate "OUR MATT " BOWE on winning a silver medal at the commonwealth games and look forward to seeing MATT  and the SILVER on poolside very soon.
